Fabric of the Community
This project invites artists to celebrate that community by sharing a painting of a textile pattern(s) from their culture or a favorite textile pattern(s) from their personal history in the form of a mural on a City-owned utility box. Artists will be awarded a $1000 stipend, paid in two parts, inclusive of all artist fees, paints, supplies, and materials.
PROJECT VISION: The City of Lynn’s Public Art Commission has designed this program to support
public art and to beautify our community and neighborhoods through the intentional use of murals. The
Fabric of the Community Art Box Project has been created to focus on community pride through enhancing visual aesthetics in the neighborhood. The primary project goal is to bring art to unexpected places.
As Lynners, we are exceptionally proud of our multicultural community – this project invites artists to celebrate that community by sharing a painting of a textile pattern(s) from their culture or a favorite textile pattern(s) from their personal history in the form of a mural on a City owned utility box.
The City of Lynn’s Public Art Commission (PAC) has partnered with the New England Foundation for the
Arts and Metropolitan Area Planning Council’s “Making it Public” program, City of Lynn’s Inspectional
Services, Planning Department, and Mayor’s Office to make this program possible. This year, up to Ten (10)utility boxes will be chosen to be transformed into works of art. The boxes are located throughout the city and will be assigned to artist at the City’s discretion.
