Started back in 2016 at Raw Art Works by one of our youths (now a RAW Alum) Masiel Encarnacion and Jason Cruz (Lead Expressive Arts Therapist), “They Look Like Me” (TLLM) was created to provide children of color with people from their community that “looked like them” and were doing great things!
This year, we are inviting artists, community leaders, elected officials, and professionals of various backgrounds, ethnicities, mediums, fields, industries and so much more, to empower and encourage our youth to dream big through beautiful art and genuine conversation.
“Reflections of Our City” is a citywide collaborative art project led by our RAW CHIEFS* through our “VanGo!” program. VanGo! Is a RAW program designed to bring art to youth out in the community. This summer it will run for two weeks in July as part of RAW’s “They Look Like Me (TLLM)” event for the Summer of 2023. In the spirit of TLLM, our goal is to spread hope to our youth, by holding space and making way for them to see themselves in a kinder, more equitable world and with a brighter future.
At the end of this summer series, on July 27th, we will unveil an exhibit of the compilation of the art made and the beautiful people behind it, by showing a reflection of the most beautiful parts of who we are as individuals and as a community, who we can be and/or what we would like to see, feel, receive from others or the world around us.
